Tactical Gear For The Partisan Fighter

Partisan Chest Rig

Partisan warfare is the long standing tradition of civilian resistance against the de factor powers. In many cases, resistance fighters are out numbered, which creates a policy of diversion, evasion and deception. The guerrilla force is broken into small units, designed for sudden and harassing attacks against personnel, infrastructure and key components of the System. There is no need for uniforms or identification. Regular civilian clothes are worn with an eye towards functionality.

History proves that when united in a common goal, resistance fighters can change history. The Germanic tribes defeated the greatest empire of the time and Polish fighters fought tenaciously against Nazi occupation. In these uncertain times, it’s not a huge leap to imagine a crumbling of government in your own nation and a resistance rising up.

In order to accomplish a mission, resistance fighters have to blend with the local population. This means overtly tactical gear is a no-go. The plate carrier and Kevlar are better left at home, for defensive purposes. Once you ditch the 2nd line gear, it’s becomes painfully clear that you have no option for carrying magazines. This is where a low profile mini rig comes into play. The Partisan Chest Rig keeps it simple with a focus on carrying a basic fighting load of ammo – four magazines / 120 rounds. This is deemed sufficient if you adhere to the “Fight Light” concept where the focus is on quick, flexible attacks of a hit and run nature.

Gadsden Dynamics, the creator of the Partisan Chest Rig, took great pains to keep weight low and the profile as slim as possible. Velcro is used for adjusting the harness for size and fit. Plastic buckles are non existent with the exception of one that is used to secure the waist strap.

Instead of using a PALS/MOLLE attachment system, the four pouches are sewn directly into the main panel. The construction and fabric allows for flexibility when inserting mags but also offers excellent retention. The pouches are designed to work with standard AR 15 magazines, but as you can see, I was able to fit Ak-47 magazines without issue. Bear in mind that the traditional ribbed metal AK magazine will be a forced fit in this rig and is not suggested. However the modern, ribless polymer mags from Tula, Radom and other European companies fit without issue.

I don’t run the AR as my primary platform, however I did have some Mini 14 magazines handy for testing. The size and dimensions of Mini 14 mags is nearly identical to AR 15 mags which made for a good test case. As you can see, the magazines fit as expected and of course are a better fit as compared to the classic banana style magazine.

For those of us who prefer more ammo on hand, it’s easy enough to toss another four magazines into a low key urban pack for backup. An obvious advantage of a mini chest rig is ease of storage. The Partisan Chest Rig can be folded up and stowed in any pack, small or large. The same cannot be said for the usual battle rattle consisting of plate carrier or the traditional chest rigs from companies such as SDS or Eagle Industries.

In order to be successful, the resistance fighter must embrace the concept of small teams, carrying minimal low profile gear. The unconventional art of war and avoiding direct prolonged enemy contact is key to winning a conflict against a much larger conventional military force. The Partisan Chest Rig combined with a well thought out first line kit is the foundation of the fighter’s tactical gear loadout.

The first line enables survival at a very basic level. A basic kit consists of the following:

Gadsden Dynamics worked closely with John Mosby from Mountain Guerrilla to design a rig from the ground up specifically for the resistance fighter. The outcome is what you would expect when you team up with a former U.S. Army Special Forces 18 Bravo soldier. It’s lightweight, constructed with comfort and function in mind. The rig can even be rotated left or right, enabling the user to “hide” the rig under the arm, giving it an even smaller profile.

There are plans in the future for a 7.62 version of the rig which would have three pouches instead of four. Make sure you follow Gadsden Dynamics on Facebook for updates on the new design. The Partisan Chest Rig is available at the link below in three different colors: Black, Two Tone (Coyote/OD Green) and Coyote.
